Why Mission Matters
By Dee Taylor-Jolley
Terri Savelle Foy, a glitzy, gutsy, God-focused internet influencer, keeps me excited about working to achieve my goals.
I love how she reminds us not to think just goals, but “Mission.”
Our mission is our broad purpose…why we exist. It reflects our core values and our overall vision. It’s enduring and sets the direction for our lives.
On the other hand, our goal(s) is a clear, specific, and measurable outcome that we, as individuals, aim to achieve as it relates to our mission or purpose in life.
Goals are time-bound and set as milestones or benchmarks to help us fulfill our mission.
So, missions are our guiding principles and goals break down that broader mission into actionable, achievable, measurable steps.
Our goals must be dynamic…adjusted as needed. That way, they can be revised, updated or completely changed as our circumstances change.
The action steps provide a clear guide for evaluating our progress and success.
We can monitor our performance and adjust our strategies as our situation warrants.
We need mission and goals
Using plain southern talk, with creative props and checklists, Terri gives us a different spin on the topic of mission and goal achievement.
