The 3 Questions That Will Change Your Life
By Dee Taylor-Jolley
At first, the questions seemed simple. But when I really sat with them, I realized they weren’t so easy to answer.
What am I talking about?
Many years ago, my husband Willie, said to me, “I’m going to introduce you to the wisest person I’ve ever met.” That person was Dr. Nido Qubein. He is currently the President of High Point University in North Carolina.
Born in Lebanon, Qubein emigrated to the United States, where he built a successful career as an entrepreneur and business leader.
He’s founded and led several companies, earning a reputation for his business savvy and his leadership skills.
Nido was a highly sought after motivational speaker and conducted professional development symposiums twice a year – which is how we met. Willie enrolled us in a four-day symposium to the tune of $10,000 each! I thought he had lost his mind! I was wrong.
During that symposium, Nido challenged us with just three question, which was a struggled for me to answer:
- “Who am I?”
- “What am I doing here?”
- “Where am I going?”
“Who am I?” is not about your education, title or even your name. It gets to the core of what you value and your beliefs. Who are you as a person?
“What am I doing here?”
This really is about what’s your purpose in this world. Do you know what it is? What are you contributing to make this a better world?
And finally, “Where am I going?” Do you know where you’re going? Have you decided on the direction for your life? Sadly, I know many friends who’ve worked to 20, 30 or 40 years and still have no clue as to what the direction of their lives should be.
Sit with yourself. Think. Then write down (in a journal) whatever comes to mind.
This will be life-changing! It was for me.
