Look Around Yourself

Look Around Yourself

By Dee Taylor-Jolley

According to Brian Tracy, you’ll never get caught up with all the stuff you need to do! So, just forget about that!

Instead, look around at others. And decide to become brave and take action.

Don’t feel brave? Fake it!

Introduce yourself to successful people and ask them what they’re doing that they earn more money and are more productive than you.

Once you’ve discovered what they’re doing differently, start applying their lessons to your life. Experience the change for yourself!

Here’s 13 things we should be doing to be brave from Goals! Author, Brian Tracy:

  1. Identify, then tackle your #1 major goal.

Concentrate single-mindedly on it. Do it well until you have completed it. Identify and eat that “big ugly frog first!”

  2. What is your WHY? What’s your purpose in life?

Author of Think and Grow Rich, Napoleon Hill said, “think on paper.” If we write down what we want to achieve, we have a greater likelihood of achieving it.

According to research, less than 3 percent of Americans have written goals. Become a “goal writer” and greatly increase your chances for getting your goals accomplished!

  3. Plan your day in advance. Decide where you’re going before you start.

Sharpen your knife before you make that first cut. Always work from a list. Have different lists for different purposes.

  4. Apply the 80/20 rule, which is the Pareto Principle.

Focus on the important few (20%) vs the trivial many (80%). See time management as life management. Start with your most important task first.

  5. Consider the consequences of what you’re doing.

What is the value of completing the task? Dr. Edward Banfield, after 50 years of research at Harvard University says, having a long term perspective is the predictor of success.

“Long term thinking” improves our short-term decision making.

  6. Practice “creative procrastination.”

Stop doing lower-level activities. “Eat” (do) that main goal first!

  7. Think on paper with a pen in hand for writing.
  8. Identify and then focus on your key results areas – Prospecting? Building rapport and trust? Identifying needs? Closing the sale? Getting referrals?
  9. Always prepare before you start.
  10. Master something!

At least an hour daily…read, study, learn, teach, master. What are you good at? Are you leveraging your God given talents?

  11. What’s holding you back?

Put pressure on yourself. Become your own cheerleader.

  12. Slice and dice difficult tasks into tiny manageable chunks.
  13. Develop your own sense of urgency!

Finally, I ask...so, what are you waiting for now? Get started RIGHT NOW with your#1!
