“The battles that count aren’t the ones for the gold medals. The struggle is within yourself,” so said Jessie (James Cleveland) Owens.
Jesse Owens won a total of four gold medals, setting world records in the process at the 1936 Berlin Olympics.
His victories were significant because they contradicted Adolf Hitler's belief in Aryan supremacy, as Owens, an African American athlete in track and field, demonstrated Black excellence.
He became a legendary figure in sports history, representing determination, talent, and resilience in the face of adversity.
“The invisible, inevitable battles are inside all of us,” Owens said.
He triumphed over his mental battles in the track and field arena.
