Underrated? Great!

By Dee Taylor-Jolley

In the world of basketball, where the spotlight shines on towering figures and thunderous dunks, there’s a player whose impact transcends the conventional boundaries of the game.

His name? Stephen Curry - affectionately known as “Steph.” While he physically doesn’t tower over his competitors, his influence on the game is great. Known as the “baby-faced assassin,” Curry possesses a blend of skill, determination, and sheer love for the game. He’s only 6'3" and so, falls short of what a dominant basketball player should look like. And this underestimation fuels his fire!

Steph Curry was a recognized sharpshooter at Davidson College, a mid-major program. But folks doubted if he could translate that into an NBA career. His critics have been silenced! Curry's a two-time NBA Most Valuable Player, a six-time NBA All-Star, and a three-time NBA champion with the Golden State Warriors.

In an interview on Willie Geist’s Sunday Morning Sit Down Show, Curry explains how he's managed to thrive despite being continually underrated. His "underrated" status serves as his secret weapon! There were concerns about his small size, his injury history, and his different playing style. Curry plays with a “chip on his shoulder.” He’s driven to continuously prove his doubters wrong.

He spends countless hours perfecting his craft and refining his skills. He puts forth consistent effort and dogged hard work.
