Play Offense

By Dee Taylor-Jolley

Playing offense is often considered better than defense. It allows you to take control of a situation, dictate the pace, and potentially achieve your goals more effectively.

Which team is more important in football - the offensive or defensive team? They each use different strategies to get to the goal line.

Strategy is the plan of action intentionally designed to achieve a desired goal.

There are two types of strategy – offense and defense.

Offensive strategy is proactive. With this, you play to win.

It’s designed to advance your position, to score goals, to put points on the board – to win.

On the other hand, the defensive strategy is designed to hold your ground, prevent the offense or opposition from scoring.

Defensive is reactive - you play not to lose. You operate in a reactive, wait-and-see mode, constantly retreating, forever backpedaling.

What strategies are you using to achieve your goals?

You may choose to play defense.
If so, you are choosing to resist change.
You choose to keep the status quo.
You choose to lower your standards.
You settle for less.

On the other hand, if you choose a strong, relentless, and determined offense, you are constantly advancing.

You’re gaining ground, building momentum, proactively creating the conditions for positive change, and achieving your goals.

Why does this matter?

A strong offensive, competitive strategy separates the high and low achievers!

In football, playing offense is seen as more aggressive. When you are on the offensive side, you have the initiative to score points, create opportunities, and put pressure on the opposing team's defense.

Offense allows you to set the tone of the game, control possession of the ball, and take calculated risks to gain an advantage.

While defense is important for preventing the opponent from scoring, it is the offense that ultimately wins games by putting points on the board!

Playing offense can be considered better than defense for it allows you to make the decisions, pursue your goals, and shape the outcomes you want!

Sadly, you may never achieve your goals, nor live your dreams by playing defense.

But we all have the freedom to choose – to play offense
or defense.

Learn and practice the offensive skills that will help you shape your own destiny.
