9 High-Achieving Habits

Narrow your focus to become more accomplished.

Vilfredo Pareto was an Italian economist.

He developed the law of the “vital few,” also known as the 80/20 rule or the “Pareto Principle.”

This says that roughly 80% of our effects or outcomes come from 20% of our inputs. In other words, a small percentage of inputs or factors contribute to a large percentage of results or outcomes.

Pareto observed this in the late 19th century when he noticed that approximately 80% of Italy's wealth was owned by around 20% of the population.

Since then, the principle has been found to apply in various fields and contexts beyond economics.

The key idea behind the Pareto Principle is that there is often an imbalance between inputs and outputs. For example:

In business, around 80% of a company's profits may come from 20% of its customers or products.

In time management, approximately 80% of productivity or results can be attributed to 20% of activities or tasks.

In personal finance, about 80% of expenses may be derived from 20% of spending categories.

While this 80/20 ratio is not always precise, it serves as a general guide. It can provide valuable insights for decision-making, resource allocation, and efficiency improvement.

By identifying and focusing on the vital few inputs that contribute the most to desired outcomes, individuals and organizations can maximize their efforts and achieve better results.

Answer the following and take action as needed:

  • Relationships
Who are the few people that have the most positive impact your life? Spend more time with them.
  • Priorities
What are the few actions that have the most positive impact on you day? Make them a priority.
  • Learning
What are the few information sources you learn the most from? Focus on them.
  • Stress
What are the few sources that cause most of the stress and friction in your life? Eliminate them.

Narrow your focus for more positive results!
